Obestat(Meridia, Raductil, Reductil, Vintix, Sibutramine HCL, Ectiva, Aderan, Sibutral, Sibutramina, Sibutraminum, Leptos)
What is Obestat?
Obestat is Sibutramine hydrochloride which is sold under many brand names: Sibumine, Meridia, Obestat, Reductil, Raductil, Reduxade, Ectiva, Leptos, Sibutrex, Sibutrim.
This appetite suppressant is proven effective therapy widely used in combination with dietary plan and exercise to help obese people lose weight and keep it off for good.
Obestat is only suitable for people with a BMI of more than 30 or for people with a BMI of more than 27 who also have other health problems such as diabetes or high blood cholesterol.
Trials showed that Obestat when combined with diet and exercise could reduce weight by 4.5%.
How does Obestat work?
Obestat works by indirectly boosting levels of serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain – two neurotransmitters or chemicals that act on the part of the brain that tells us how hungry or full we feel. When there are more chemicals in this part of the brain, the brain gets more messages to say we feel full. This means we feel more satisfied with less food, so eat smaller amounts and lose weight.
How to take Obestat?
At the start of your treatment Obestat is usually prescribed for a period of four weeks.
The recommended starting dose of Obestat is one 10mg capsule administered once daily with or without food.
If there is inadequate weight loss (ie less than 2kg) after 4 weeks, the dose may be increased to one 15mg capsule once daily provided 10mg was well tolerated. Blood pressure and heart rate changes should be taken into account when deciding to increase the dose.
Doses above 15mg daily are not recommended. In most of the clinical trials, Obestat was given in the morning.
The patient is kept under observation by the doctor in this period of four weeks to check for any signs of weight loss or side effects. Your blood pressure and heart rate is also monitored carefully.
